Let's Learn Together: Bella's T-shirt Quilt

(Please note: There are more posts in this series about Bella's T-Shirt Quilt. I am making a quilt like Bella's. See the Sidebar on the right for list of related posts as I document my progress.)

I mentioned in yesterday's post, Bella's T-Shirt Quilt, that I've been wanting to make a T-shirt quilt, especially since I saw that one might be featured in Eclipse even before the movie was released.

I went to see Eclipse for the second time this morning.  (Thank goodness for cheap matinees.  At $5 a showing, I could see it many more times over and not be bankrupt.)  I enjoyed myself a lot more than I did at the midnight showing.  I took the time to soak in the performances, the romance, and some of the little details.  I paid closer attention to Bella's T-shirt quilt, too.  (I'm also not so critical of the movie after the second time, including Bella's monologue at the end.  I got into the moment more and see that it's not so much of a change from the book--I did miss Edward giving in to Bella's last human demand before she said no, though.)

I wanted to see if I could tell how the quilt top was constructed.  For instance were the T-shirts separated with sashing (fabric strips placed in between blocks)?  They weren't.  The T-shirt blocks seemed to be sewn together into a top and that was all.

We're not much for traveling so I don't have any trip T-shirts to contribute.  I stopped by Goodwill yesterday and purchased some.  (This may sound strange, but I'm dedicated to making this quilt.)

The one thing that I do want to mention that I think is an inconsistency in book to movie, is that Renee mentions a three-headed lobster shirt from Maine.  Bella says in New Moon that she had never been farther east than New Mexico before her trip to Italy to save Edward from forcing the Volturi to kill him.  I kept this in mind when purchasing my shirts.  Renee mentions Encintas (?) in the movie, too, so maybe I can find one of those shirts online--or is that too much?

I will be prepping the shirts I have so far this afternoon.  I'll share my progress tomorrow.
