A Twilight Birthday

I had a birthday last week.  I received a wonderful package in the mail from my friend Lady Di.  I'm thrilled to have received such amazing Twilight gifts!

I took a quick picture so I could save the moment forever or as long as this blog survives....  The chess pieces have been moved to my sewing table.  The Love at First Bite cookbook is in my kitchen waiting for me to try an inspired recipe.  The Cadbury eggs have been eaten--you didn't think I'd save them, did you?!

Can you believe that these are the first ever Twilight gifts that I've received since becoming obsessed?

I have great friends out there....  I think one of the definitions of friendship is when another person recognizes your obsessions, never makes you feel silly or guilty for them, and even FEEDS them....

Thank you Dianne!!!!

Twilight Emergency

Could there ever really be a Twilight emergency?!

Of course!!!

My bedside is a mess of books.  I usually try to keep them in stacks and off my floor by storing them on a rack next to my bed, but yesterday I shoved things around looking for a library book that my husband needed to return.

My Twilight book and another book--thank goodness not a library book--got peed on.  Yes, how gross.  One of the dogs peed a lake on my floor next to my bed and my book was a casualty.

I have another copy, but it's my Stephenie Meyer signed copy and I can't go reading that.

It's a good thing I had a Borders gift card and they have free shipping through today.  For $7.12 with tax, I am replacing my book.  It will never be the same though.  LOL

Breaking Dawn: Preface and Chapter One "Engaged"

I am reading Breaking Dawn again so I can get some ideas for quilt blocks.  My plan is to feature at least one chapter per post.  I'm also curious to see how my impressions of the book may have evolved over the years.  I will be discussing the book in detail so don't read if you don't want to be spoiled.  (Has anyone not read the book?!)

If your life was all you had to give your beloved, how could you not give it?

If it was someone you truly loved?

I've always liked that Meyer used prefaces in the books.  One immediately begins a heightened emotional journey from the very start and the anticipation builds and builds.

When I got my copy of Breaking Dawn, I had heard certain details about the story.  I knew who Bella was referencing in the Preface.  As a mom, I thought a lot about this passage.  I easily identified with Bella's words.

The block I would make would somehow represent a mother and child.  Inspired by Mothers Love Pendants....

Chapter 1, Engaged

You're pregnant!  Charlie exploded.  You're pregnant, aren't you?
Classic Charlie.....  I anticipated this scene in the book to be sure.  Bella's fear that people would assume she was pregnant were realized.  Charlie's reaction didn't surprise me, but Renee's did pleasantly.  Renee's portrayed as flighty, but she knows her daughter.

I was sad to learn that Bella's truck had died.  I secretly hoped that Edward would restore Bella's truck by the end of the book and was just a little suspicious that he may have had something to do with its demise.

Poor Jacob!  Jacob running away confirmed my estimation of his immaturity....yes, I'm Team Edward.  Charlie must have though it awful strange that Billy was so unconcerned about Jacob and Bella, too.  I'm glad that his dad and Bella could at least keep tabs on him.

My favorite line from this chapter:
No one dressed by me ever looks like an idiot.  (Alice), p. 20

Block ideas would be the Guardian car, a Have You Seen This Boy poster block, and a needle and thread for the final fitting.
