Part 3 Chit Chat from the Dark Side: Stephenie Meyer Twilight Quilt

It really isn't any wonder that New Moon is my favorite book of the series.  I fell to pieces over my ouster from TQC and have yet to recover.  I continue to be the center of my universe and it just doesn't seem fair that I've been left behind.  Life goes on, but not for me in many respects......

Here it is in Sepia.

The eyes blend so well with this one it might even be a good idea to increase opacity so they really stand out? The original fan art I took the eyes from is sepia. So for the others I really had to make it more transparent (40% opacity) so the cloudiness of the skin around the eyes would blend in more, even after I erased some & smudged it around to remove the hard lines. (does that make sense?)

Here it is at 50% opacity:

What do you think of this?

Shannon to Iris
Yes!

Best ever....are u sure you don't want to do this block? UR putting so much work into this and I am SO grateful.

I think it needs to be dark like this to show through the organza.

It is the shannon and iris show....

Dear Elizabeth,

Bummer, I lost a message so here I go again....

I received the package today. Thank you!

Before I start the block, I wanted to clarify a few things first.

You said you printed the block at 140% (5x1.40=7)

Silly question, but you do know that the FF block doesn't finish naturally on-point?

The block needs to finish on-point at 7", correct?. Setting triangles or, better yet as Iris suggested, strips of fabric will be needed to be added to the block before it's squared up to be on-point to the finished 7" size.

Thank you,

Shannon

Glad you got the fabric. . If you don't love it, don't use it, though.

Shannon, I'm sending the rest of this message with complete respect for you as a quilter. I'm not trying to boss you. Please don't be rubbed the wrong way.

Yes. This is another reason why I sent the paper model. I'm going to tell you what I plan to do for the tulips, and hopefully that will help. I printed out the pattern (the actual paper piecing pattern) for the tulips at the reduced size and put it together. What I'll do next is lay it on the triangle and trace out my own paper piecing to finish the block to the size and shape it needs to be, removing the extra pieces of the original pattern that hang over the edges and adding in what it needs to be a setting triangle. I'll also have to add a seam allowance. This seems to be the least wasteful and most efficient way I can think of to to finish the blocks to the shape and size I'll need them to be.

I don't remember exactly how much I enlarged the pattern now, its been too long and I didn't write it down , I'm really sorry. I think it was larger than 140% because when you turn a 7" square on point, you can fit more in there. It seems like 149%, but I might be really wrong. When the hands are enlarged, and the point is added at the top, it pushes it down a little farther on the block, so there is quite a bit at the bottom that isn't used.

However you would like to do it will be fine. But 7" is the finished size (and just because I always check and re-check myself, to make sure I'm communicating to you correctly), 7 1/2" with a seam allowance.

Have I helped at all, or is it clear as mud?

Please ask if you have questions or if I'm not being clear. I want to help, but I won't hover. I'm going to be home most of the evening and checking my PMs on and off. If you need to talk to me, my cell # is 801-787-6856.

OK you two, stop this. >- You're making me dizzy!!!!! I'm going to sic Jasper on you two!

I think you've both have valid points and they've been made. Move on! No one is saying anything behind anyone's back, no one is holding grudges. We all have artistic differences.....let's just agree on that.

I for one am excited with our progress and am looking forward to seeing the stuff both of you make. Can we just agree to move on to the fun stuff?

Elizabeth, I'll go ahead and leave the paper in, but be forewarned that as I said before the stuff I'm using is not rippable! If you have a nervous breakdown, I better not be sued! You wouldn't get much anyway! I'll probably be applique'ing one block, so that doesn't apply to that one. I'm optimistic you wont have problems putting the whole top together.

So, PLEASE chill. The next post (general or PM) I hear from either of you better be a happy one!!!

Here look at this picture for a while, it will make you forget all about the bad stuff!

And we just figured all that stuff out! I told you to ignore her! I hope I didn't do anything bad too? Can you just take a break for a while and consider staying?

I.

Well, I really made a mess of things didn't I?

I am just sick about what I've done. Yeah, I'm starting the "it's not you, it's me" speech. I'm glad we had a chance to clear the air.

Okay, humor is not appropriate when you're trying to eat crow.

I don't want to be a thorn in anyone's side anymore. I don't trust that my work will be up to standard, either.

I really do wish the group the best!

Sincerely,

Oh, Shannon,

Your work is beautiful and you are a most valuable member of our group. You are a wonderful quilter and we wouldn't be where we are without you! Please don't quit! I feel like it is ME who's made such a mess of things. Think on it a little more and I promise I'll give you your space. Tell me exactly what you need and I'm happy to comply.

Humor is OK anytime, and I enlarged the FF block by 149% (I double-check the other day after you PMed).

Now where did THAT come from? You gals realize I've only completed a handful of quilts.....I should be the one worrying that my work wont be up to standard! I've seen the work you did for the Mystery quilt and the stuff you posted on your blog. It looks great! Did I tell you that when I printed out the "freshman year" instructions for the Mystery quilt, I also printed the picture of the block you made, as inspiration?!

Shannon, I really hope you can see that we REALLY don't want you to leave. If nothing else, how about doing the other blocks you signed up for and passing on the FF.....that's really the source of our problems. There are no preconceived expectations of the others.

Elizabeth to Shannon

Shannon,

I forgot to say that you are not a thorn in anyone's side.

Elizabeth
